Craig Britbach, Stone Sculptor
Born and raised in Port Angeles Washington, the outdoors was a big part of my growing up. My sculptures so far have been realistic images of salmon, combining my love of art with my passion for fishing and nature. I plan to explore other types of wildlife as well.

I have always enjoyed art, drawing, painting and woodcarving. In 1999 I took some stone carving classes at Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle and have been hooked ever since.

My larger art is currently on display in several public locations: Port Angeles, Puyallup, and Oregon City. I enjoy carving in all kinds of stone, although I prefer Basalt for large pieces because of its contrast between polished and natural states. Stone sculpture is a wonderful outdoor medium because it welcomes any weather as well as human touch. For my smaller pieces, I have worked in Soapstone, Brucite, Alabaster, and Granite to create tabletop sculptures and wall hangings.

I use a variety of tools in my sculptures: hammers and chisels, power grinders, diamond chainsaws, hoists, etc. The larger pieces (hundreds to a few thousand pounds) are sometimes a challenge just to turn over! The finishing touches (with diamond polishing pads) take many hours alone. I am currently constructing a new studio where I will have more room to sculpt and display my work.
